Jumanji
Last year
I saw the ad for Jumanji. The scenes from the ad looked like a life like
litrpg movie. For anyone who does not know litrpg is a fantasy type of book
where the main character actually lives inside the game. The correlation
between Jumanji and litrpg struck me when I saw that each of the characters in
the movie had three stripes on each of their forearms representing the amount
of lives they had in the game. Now while most litrpg is simply has a fantasy
game theme, Jumanji took it to a whole other level by adding comedy. In the
beginning of the movie each of the characters before they went into the game
had to choose characters. When they chose their selection the movie producers
made it, so they would be placed in bodies that would be the exact opposite of
who they were in real life. For example, one girl who was obsessed about the
way she looked and took selfies of herself all the time was placed into an old
fat man's body. This caused a lot of confusion between the main characters once
they were brought into the game as they were trying to figure out their new
selves. This lead to where the girl who was turned into the guy was trying to
figure out her new body parts. What I think these circumstances did to these
characters was that it allowed them to know each other since they were living in
each other’s dream bodies. One example of this would be how the guy who got bullied
before he was in the game turned into a jacked guy who nobody would mess with
and the bully got turned into a skinny short guy. In essence, I think Jumanji
would be a great movie for anyone to watch.
Do you think the gaming aspect brought in something to the Jumanji idea that wasn't there present?
