Vampires

From all of the Vampire Movies I have seen I can agree on one thing. They use the superiority theory to mess around with normal people to make scenes that are hilarious. For example, I used to be a long-time fan of true blood which revolves around a vampire who has come to New Orleans and his girlfriend. There are always these funky scenes where the graphics are so unreal that it just makes the movie funnier. I always enjoy the way that the actors mess around with their prey which uses the incongruity theory because I cannot understand it. But although you say these movies are funny I have always found them to be pretty intense dramas to. For example, using true blooded again, the girl always gets saved by his boyfriend and eventually turns her into a vampire which is to be expected, because who would not want to live forever. So, while I see that these movies are funny I cannot help but tell you that they generally involve a romance. And while that romance can make t...

The Office

I can’t relate much to the office since I have not watched much of it. However, I can understand that it must be funny because the incongruity theory and the superiority theory plays such a big role in it. The way Michael, Dwight, and Jim use the superiority theory seems to have a big impact on the other people who are within the office. I remember when I first watched a clip of the office I was in a security meeting for my whole high school about gun violence. During the introduction to the meeting a clip of the Office was played, and I guess you could say I was instantly hooked. The way that the characters handled themselves was in a serious way, but I guess you could say that it was so serious that I found it funny. The way the main characters abused their power put the other characters at risk which intentionally made the whole scene more dramatic and comedic. I enjoyed the way that the main characters fought off whatever opposition they faced using the superiorit...

Thor and Incongruity

Why do we laugh? What makes comedy so funny? It brings me back to a time where I was watching the Avengers and Thor was acting serious and suddenly laughter erupted from the crowd. But, how can someone be so serious yet others who are watching that person from an outsider’s perspective laugh about it. The answer is simply that a person living in our world right now has been programed to understand that there are certain laws that apply to the physical world. Meaning that because Thor is in no way living like someone normal we laugh because we cannot understand it. This is a facet of incongruency which means, “two or more real objects are thought through one concept, and the identity of the concept is transferred to the objects; it then becomes strikingly apparent from the entire difference of the objects in other respects, that the concept was only applicable to them from a one-sided point of view.” Thor’s point of view could only be understood from his perspective and so ...
