Deadpool
Deadpool is an interesting topic that I want to talk about. One of the interesting things about Deadpool is the incongruity theory. The fact that we think of superheroes as supposed to look like they are masculine and look good is false in Deadpool. The man who plays the lead character in Deadpool is in fact ugly. He has gone under multiple mutations to his body to give him the ability to not die. Incongruity theory states that anything outside of our reality that is incongruous to our environment is funny. The fact that Deadpool is ugly and cannot die I think defies the reality greatly. In Deadpool the main character is threatened by the organization that did the mutations to him in the first place. I think this is quite different from other Marvel movies in the fact that the people that made the lead character into who he was are now chasing after him. The lead character also shows a love story between him and a girl who actually loves him because of who he is. I think the fact that this beautiful woman who is loving a man who is ugly also represents incongruity theory just because of how many women look for looks over a man’s personality in today’s society. Another theory that is present in Deadpool is the fact that he makes fun of his superiors and basically rips them apart comedically. One of the scenes in which he does this is where he tears through his captors that are inherently better off than him and does it in a comedic way where he makes fun of them. Overall, I believe Deadpool represents the two theories that we have talked about immensely in class which are superiority theory and incongruity theory.
